Job Description

Specific Accountabilities

  • Participates in the preparation of
    the annual POMEC budget.​
  • Reviews proposed capital
    expenditure authorisation requests forms pertaining to POME and makes
    appropriate recommendations.​
  • In case of pre-opening
    hotels, assists the CE in all the engineering related jobs as described in
    the pre-opening engineering checklist such as, but not limited
    to:​
  • Plan, implement and administer
    an energy-management programme by establishing energy
    reduction objectives, the maintenance of records and regular reporting
    of performance against
    these objective.
  • Ensure staff
    awareness of energy management within the property by conducting regular
    education and training programmes on energy conservation and matters
    related to efficient operation of equipment in a cost-effective
    fashion
  • Contribute to the hotel’s
    profitability by ensuring the effective management of the building's
    environmental controls and energy-conservation systems. Evaluate, control
    and record energy usage and implement and upgrade energy conservation
    systems
  • Ensure the cost effectiveness
    and technical efficiency of all services performed by outside contracts by close
    supervision. Ensure all work is carried out in accordance with contracts,
    leases, services agreements
    and warranties
  • Contribute to
    the effectiveness of management decision-making by representing the maintenance
    department at management meetings and staff meetings and by ensuring regular
    liaison with heads of other
    departments
  • Reports daily via
    the log book to the CE all irregularities during his shift and
    the steps taken to rectify the problems
    highlighted.​
  • Determines optimal operating efficiencies
    and take necessary corrective measures when there is an excessive variance
    from the standards shown in the logs and utility
    data​
  • Attends to all types of repair and maintenance work
    in the hotel premises, including any new additions/extensions to the hotel
    or any other properties maintained by the hotel.​
  • Advises
    on improvements to the present system in order to optimise the
    operating efficienc yand economy of the said
    system.​
  • Coordinates and attends/distributes all work
    orders directly to his staff for action on a daily basis, giving priority
    to guest complaints.​
  • Prepares the engineering department's
    required spare parts list.​
  • Prepares the PM annual plan
    and a monthly Maintenance Status Report​
  • Ensures that
    the water treatment and water treatment testing is
    being undertaken.​
  • Ensures the implementation of IHG
    policies and procedures for:​
  • Maintenance
    schedules
  • Energy conservation
    and control
  • Water and sewage quality
    control
  • Fire prevention and other
    safety programmes
  • Effective plant
    preventive and routine
    maintenance
  • Operation and control
    of the plant and equipment
  • Energy
    management systems
    and procedures
  • POMEC logs and utility
    consumption
  • Inspection and staff
    supervision​
  • Supports and initiate programmes for
    the improvement procedures and the reduction of energy and utility
    costs.​
  • Analyses and monitors energy costs and expenditures
    for the department.​
  • Recommends to the CE new policies
    and procedures for a more economical operation
    and maintenance programme.​
  • Prepares PM work orders
    and follows up work orders on a daily basis. Advises the CE of any problems
    or delays.​
  • Follows up on work requests and PM backlogs
    twice a week and is responsible for completion and correct closing of all work
    requests. At the end of the week he presents a status
    report.​
  • Provides a weekly report of any plant or equipment
    which is out of order and the action taken.​
  • Supervises
    outside contractors when working on plants or equipment in order
    to ensure high standards
    of workmanship.​

    personnel during his shift.​
  • Works with superior and
    the human resources department to:​
  • Conduct on-the-job
    training in accordance with the departmental standards and procedures
    and maintain a record of progress for each staff
    member​
  • Train and develop the assigned employees in
    order to improve their skills and quality
    of work​
  • Provide input for probation and formal performance
    appraisal discussions in line with company
    guidelines​
  • Ensure new staff attend corporate orientation
    within first month of hire​
  • Coach, counsel and discipline
    staff in breach of hotel policies and departmental procedures, providing
    constructive feedback to enhance performance​
  • Ensure
    that house rules are obeyed​
  • Ensure punctual attendance
    and adherence to duty schedules by all subordinate
    staff​
  • Ensure that personal grooming and hygiene standards
    are being observed.

    Carry out spot checks in the morning​
  • Ensure all
    subordinate personnel follow the engineering standards and procedures as issued
    from time to time​
  • Is responsible for issuing warnings
    to his/her subordinates for infringements of hotel rules and regulations, such
    as, but not limited to:​
  • Sleeping while
    on duty
  • Arriving at the beginning
    of the shift
  • Departing early at
    the end of the shift
  • Not adhering
    to grooming
    standards

  • Responsible
    Business:

    • Is
      responsible for work safety on his/her shift​
    • Demonstrates
      awareness of IHG Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) policies and procedures
      and ensures all procedures are conducted safely by himself/herself and the staff
      who report to him/her, and are within PPE
      guidelines.​
    • Is aware of the duty of care and adhere
      to IHG's various workplace health and safety-related policies
      and procedures.​
    • Is familiar with property safety,
      first-aid and fire and emergency procedures and operates equipment safely
      and sensibly.​
    • Initiates action to correct hazardous
      situations and notifies supervisors of potential
      dangers.​
    • Logs security incidents and accidents
      in accordance with hotel requirements.​
    • Prepares a monthly
      Maintenance Status Report.​
    • Carries out regular fire alarm
      tests.​
    • Ensures that the workshop and related areas
      are kept in a clean and tidy condition.​
    • Complies
      with hotel's health, safety and hygiene policy.​
    • Ensures
      that all equipment is in good working condition according to the engineering
      standards.​
    • Maintains clean and tidy plant rooms
      and equipment throughout the hotel according to the engineering
      standards.​
    • Ensures that availability of the plant
      and equipment is 100 percent at all times. If breakdowns occur, ensures
      that the necessary repair is carried out without
      delay.​
    • Acts as a member of the hotel’s fire brigade
      and participates in all fire drills/training.​
    • Performs
      other duties as assigned by superior.​
