The Role

The
Seamstress is responsible for maintaining, altering, and repairing hotel linens,
uniforms, and soft furnishings to ensure they meet Mandarin Oriental’s
exceptional quality and presentation standards. This role supports
the Housekeeping department by ensuring all textile items are well-maintained,
properly fitted, and consistently presented at a luxury level.

In
a pre-opening environment, the Seamstress plays a key role in preparing uniforms
and linen inventories, supporting fittings, and ensuring readiness for hotel
opening.

Key Responsibilities

Uniform
Alterations & Repairs

  • Perform alterations and tailoring of staff
    uniforms to ensure proper fit and professional appearance
  • Repair
    damaged uniforms, including stitching, hemming, and replacement of buttons,
    zippers, and other components
  • Ensure all uniforms meet hotel grooming
    and presentation standards

Linen & Soft Furnishing Maintenance


  • Repair and maintain hotel linens such as bed sheets, pillowcases, duvet
    covers, towels, and curtains
  • Inspect linens regularly for wear and tear
    and carry out necessary repairs
  • Ensure repaired items meet quality
    standards and are fit for guest use

Quality Control &
Inspection

  • Conduct regular checks of uniforms and linens
    for damages, discoloration, or defects
  • Maintain high standards
    of workmanship and attention to detail
  • Ensure consistent quality across
    all textile items used in the hotel

Pre-Opening
Responsibilities

  • Assist in organizing and preparing uniform
    distribution and fitting sessions for all hotel colleagues
  • Support
    tagging, labeling, and inventory of uniforms and linens
  • Participate
    in setup of uniform room and linen areas
  • Assist with receiving,
    checking, and preparing new linen and uniform stock
  • Support mock
    operations and ensure all textiles are ready for opening

Inventory
& Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate records of uniform issuance,
    alterations, and repairs
  • Track linen damages and repair frequency
    to support inventory planning
  • Ensure proper storage and organization
    of sewing materials and supplies
  • Monitor stock of threads, fabrics,
    and tailoring materials

Coordination & Communication


  • Work closely with Housekeeping, Laundry, and HR for uniform distribution
    and maintenance
  • Coordinate with Supervisors regarding repair priorities
    and urgent requests
  • Communicate any major linen or uniform issues
    to management
  • Support fitting schedules and employee needs

Equipment Handling & Maintenance

  • Operate sewing machines
    and other tailoring equipment safely and efficiently
  • Maintain tools
    in good working condition and report any malfunctions
  • Ensure
    cleanliness and organization of the sewing/work area

Safety &
Compliance

  • Follow all health and safety guidelines related
    to equipment and work environment
  • Ensure proper handling of needles,
    machines, and other tools
  • Maintain a safe, clean, and organized
    workspace
  • Adhere to hotel policies and brand standards


Qualifications & Experience

  • High school
    diploma or vocational training in tailoring, dressmaking, or related field

  • Minimum of 1–3 years’ experience as a seamstress, tailor, or similar role
    (hotel experience preferred)
  • Strong sewing and alteration skills, both
    hand and machine
  • Attention to detail and quality workmanship

  • Basic communication skills; English proficiency is an advantage
